Day 24 Wall, SD to Pierre, SD

Day 24

So today is 117 miles...normally not a big deal...unless you factor in the temerature(it is SD in July) or wind(20-30+mph)...but it is just rolling terrain so...yeah uh huh.

We started just after 6am to beat the heat and had a ferocious side wind most of the morning. Then, after nearly 60 miles, we turned directly north into it. I was in an old guys paceline and it took us about 2 1/2 hours to do the 20 miles. The cloud cover went away and it was very warm when we finally finished around 4pm. Long, hard day. But we finished it!
We crossed the Missouri River and entered the Central Daylight Time Zone. The river is much wider than I expected.

Along the route today, we passed miles and miles of wheat fields

and hay fields

And the humor for the day...
I don't need to explain the SD humor do I?
Lots of grasshoppers on the roads and everywhere else...the locals say its a banner year for them.
